Tax Associate

Description:

In the Tax Associate or Audit Associate position, you will handle the technical preparation of financial statements, tax returns, and general ledger entries in addition to the analytical assessment of various information and options. This position involves significant interaction with clients and the ability to foster positive relations within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment as well as practice development, involvement in management decisions and exposure to technical issues that will challenge your abilities.

Oil and Gas Accounting Staff

Armstrong, Backus & Co., LLP is seeking a candidate who wants to experience the personal challenge of working for a regional leader in the accounting industry. In our Oil and Gas Accounting Solutions department, you will manage the accounting and finance roll for multiple client accounts. This position requires a person who iss self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality and client services. The ideal candidate is a quick and willing learner, seeking to expand their knowledge and experience in the growing energy sector.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage multiple clients’ specific needs leveraging a proactive process
- Perform monthly revenue processing and Joint Interest Billing accounting
- Complete production and regulatory compliance requirements
- AFE coding and reconciliations
- Prepare, post and reconcile journal entry transactions
- Prepare and analyze bank account activity transactions
- Maintain General Ledger and sub-ledgers and related account reconciliations
- Design and implement accounting processes and controls
- Guide clients in systems use, planning for business needs, and interpreting processing results
- Property administration, including DOI changes
- Compile revenue information received monthly from purchasers and verify volumes and prices
- Prepare and process payroll

Qualifications:

A minimum of two years of oil and gas specific accounting or bookkeeping related experience is required. A bachelor’s degree in accounting and oil and gas industry experience is preferred.

Payroll Specialist

Description:

Armstrong, Backus & Co., LLP is seeking a candidate who wants to experience the personal challenge of working for a regional leader in the accounting industry. In our Payroll department, you will manage payroll for multiple client accounts as well as a variety of bookkeeping and accounting tasks including bank reconciliations, posting transactions, billing and accounts receivable, accounts payable, and preparing deposits. This position requires a person who is self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality and client service. The ideal candidate is an analytical problem solver with an understanding of payroll regulation that can practically apply this knowledge as well as be a resource specialist for the firm.

Responsibility and Duties
- Understand and interpret governmental laws and regulations
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and works with management to refine processes
- Assist with training and documentation of internal processes
- Taxable-non-taxable benefit processing
- Prepare and process payroll
- New payroll set-up and implementation
- Updates and maintain employees’ records by entering changes of personal and tax information identified by employee and or client
- Calculation and distribution of commission reports
- Review and balance client payroll for year-end tax reporting
- Monthly, quarterly and annual regulatory reporting for federal, state and local agencies
- Various compliance requirements with ancillary third-party regulatory agencies

In our administrative department, you will provide support to the tax and client advisory service departments with bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable and other related general accounting processes. This position requires a person who is self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality and client service. The ideal candidate is an analytical problem solver with a can-do attitude willing to take on any task.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Basic bookkeeping and account reconciliation
- Post financial data to accounts and identify discrepancies
- Assist in maintaining databases, spreadsheets, etc.
- Assist with 1099 and W2 preparation and processing
- Perform routine accounting, clerical, billing and/or other duties on assigned accounts
- Provides customer service in a professional and timely manner
- Work collaboratively with other groups or departments in the firm
- Print and mail documents – preparing FedEx, UPS, or USPS packages as needed
- Scan various tax documents into paperless document management system for storage and documentation
- Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

High school diploma required, Associates degree in Business or related field, preferred. A minimum of one-year administrative, accounting, or fiscal experience, required.

2022 Internship

Location:

Description:

Are you a current student ready for meaningful, hands-on work experience? That is exactly what you will gain when you join the team of Armstrong, Backus & Co. as a Tax /Audit Intern.

During your internship, you will work on numerous team engagements with direct access and interaction with clients across diverse industries. Your day-to-day work will include the preparation of basic informational and tax returns, assistance with portions of larger audits or accounting engagements, and direct support in preparation of financial statements.

Internships typically run from February through April for Tax Services and January through March for Audit.

The objective of the Internship Program is to provide on-the-job training while allowing time for personal study to develop your accounting skills. Tuition reimbursement is available if you meet certain qualifications.

Of course, our ultimate hope would be that upon graduation, you become a full-time Tax / Audit Associate and permanent member of the Armstrong, Backus & Co. team. We look forward to hearing from you!

  • 90 credit hours completed, including Intermediate I

Tax Manager

Description:

We are currently looking for talented individuals who want to experience the personal challenge of working for a leader in the industry. In the Tax Manager position, you will provide clients with financial information, prepare tax returns, analyze information and options, prepare general ledger entries, and more. This position will involve significant interaction with clients, practice development, involvement in management decisions and exposure to technical issues that will challenge your abilities.

The Tax Manager facilitates the entire client process including planning, performing the engagement, and concluding the project. In addition, the Tax manager will schedule assignments, supervise staff, mentor, and review work of staff level associates. A Tax Manager will also have strong technical tax consultation skills as well as knowledge of roles and technical skills needed for the work. Solid interpersonal and communication skills are imperative to be successful in this position.
